Basketball Australia’s Child Safeguarding Commitment Statement

  • Basketball has a zero-tolerance policy to child abuse and neglect in any form.
  • Basketball Australia and its Member Organisations are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children in basketball by providing a safe and inclusive environment and by ensuring that everyone involved in basketball is educated and informed of their responsibilities to protect and look after Children.
  • All Children have the right to feel safe and protected from all forms of abuse, harm, and neglect. Children have the right to take part in sport in a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment.
  • Basketball Australia aims to create and maintain an inclusive, child-safe environment that is understood, endorsed, implemented, and adhered to by everyone involved in basketball.

As an organisation that works with children and an Active Kids provider, Port Stephens Basketball Association (PSBA) is required by the Office of Children's Guardian (OCG) under the NSW Children's Guardian Act 2019 to:

  • Apply the Child Safe Standards
  • Hold current Working With Children Checks.

Everyone involved with Port Stephens Basketball must act in accordance with the Basketball Australia (BA) Child Safeguarding Policy. The policy applies to all who are involved with PSBA including the board, committee, coaches, officials, players, parents/carers, families and volunteers.
