Basketball is everyone’s game. No matter what age, ability, gender or background, our sport offers a wide range of programs, competitions and development pathways to make basketball accessible and inclusive for everyone.

Port Stephens Basketball Association (PSBA) is an approved NSW Government Active Kids voucher program Provider - don't forget to use your vouchers when you register with us!

FORD AUSSIE HOOPS AND COACHING DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

We provide coaching development and introduction to to learning the game of basketball for children aged 5-18. Known as the Ford Aussie Hoops program for 5-10 year olds and coaching development for older participants. Coaching programs currently run at the Boomerang Park court on a weekly basis, enrolment is on a per term basis. The Ford Aussie Hoops and coaching development programs provide:

• Understanding of game rules and scoring
• Development of skills and technique
• Basketball game experience in a supportive environment
• Preparation to progress to competition basketball
• Ford Aussie Hoops participant pack! For children aged 5-10 years, the pack includes:
  • Spalding Basketball (Size 4 or 5) – modelled on Basketball Australia’s official game ball!
  • Ford Aussie Hoops singlet.
  • Ford Aussie Hoops Backpack
  • Sticker Sheet – Featuring Basketball Australia’s National Teams.

COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES

Port Stephens Basketball will begin establishing local (domestic) competitions over the 2025-26 summer season and will look to start forming representative teams in future. Please use the menu above to see our competition pages for current opportunities. Please get in contact with our head coach Janice Hilton or portstephensbasketball@gmail.com to register your interest in playing representative basketball with us!

Current competitions and training are being held at the Boomerang Park court at Raymond Terrace. We accept Active Kids vouchers.

SPORTING SCHOOLS 

Port Stephens Basketball partners with the Australian Government Sporting Schools grant scheme to bring the benefits of the Aussie Hoops program to our local primary and secondary schools for free. Sporting Schools aims to help children build confidence, increase their participation in sport and connect them with community sporting opportunities to foster a lifelong love of sport.

With a Sporting Schools grant in place, Port Stephens Basketball accredited coaches can visit your school to provide coaching development for groups of any size. The Sporting Schools program is offered on a weekly basis in school Term blocks. For more details and to apply for a Sporting Schools grant, visit the Funding Applications page on the Sporting Schools website.

To utilise your grant and book your Sporting Schools program with Port Stephens Basketball, visit the Book a Program page on the Sporting Schools website and log into the School Portal. Select Port Stephens Basketball as the provider when filling out your request.

INCLUSION OPPORTUNITIES

Port Stephens Basketball is dedicated to bringing basketball opportunities and enjoyment to as many people as possible.

Janice Hilton, head coach at Port Stephens Basketball has a long history of working with disabilities as a mother, foster carer and coach of the NSW deaf men's and women's teams during the 1990's taking the youngest teams to competition ever in the history of deaf basketball.

Janice and the Port Stephens Basketball team of coaches are currently working with children with disabilities through the Sporting Schools program delivered in our local schools (see information above).
